Greta & Max

Summer on the South Downs in Alfriston

A sun‑soaked July day set the scene for Greta & Max’s beautiful South Downs wedding — a celebration woven with local roots, Italian warmth, and the quiet charm of the Sussex countryside.

St Michael & All Angels, Berwick

They married in the historic St Michael & All Angels Church in Berwick, a place full of character, artistry and calm. Greta carried a beautifully simple bouquet of seasonal British blooms in soft, pretty colours — the kind of effortless elegance that suits a summer bride perfectly.

Inside the church, we created a classic green‑and‑white scheme: window sills dressed with garden flowers, pedestal arrangements brimming with foliage, and a full garland winding around the pulpit. Fresh, timeless, and full of summer texture.

Across the Downs to Alfriston

After the ceremony, Greta & Max chose the most romantic route — walking across the South Downs into Alfriston village, hand in hand, on a warm UK heatwave afternoon. While they wandered through the sunshine, we gathered the church flowers and brought them swiftly to their reception at The Alfriston South Downs Hotel, just moments from our Floramay studio.

Reception at The South Downs Hotel

In the hotel gardens, the repurposed church arrangements found a new life around the gazebo, adding soft movement and colour to the outdoor space. Inside the orangery, long tables were styled with amber‑coloured bud vases, each filled with the same pretty mix of blooms from Greta’s bouquet. The flowers sat perfectly between the afternoon‑tea cake stands, creating a relaxed, intimate setting for their closest family and friends.

With Max having grown up locally and Greta’s family travelling from Italy, the whole day felt like a gentle meeting of worlds — Sussex countryside charm with a touch of Mediterranean joy.

And for us at Floramay, it was a pleasure to work at venues that sit quite literally up the road from our studio — a true South Downs celebration from start to finish.
